NDSA member Kaye Burian of Manning, ND, captured the spirit of the North Dakota cattle industry in this painting commissioned by the Stockmen's Association to commemorate the organization's diamond anniversary. In this vivid, true-to-life depiction of ranching in North Dakota, you can almost hear the young calves and their anxious mothers bellering, the horses galloping and the fire crackling at this springtime branding. At the same time, you can sense the presence of the founding fathers on the horizon, watching their dreams being realized and their legacy living on generations later.
