Northrop completes his term as International Livestock Identification Association president

North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) Chief Brand Inspector Blaine Northrop completed his year of service as the president of the International Livestock Identification Association (ILIA). He was presented with an outgoing award at the annual ILIA conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on Wednesday.

The ILIA is an international trade organization dedicated to the promotion, administration and enforcement of livestock identification and inspection laws and provides a conduit for animal identification and agricultural professionals to share information and collaborate across member states and provinces. Traceability was a major topic for the ILIA over the past year.

“We are very proud of the work Blaine has done as ILIA president and for representing the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association so well, not only at the state level, but on the international stage,” said NDSA Brand Board Chairman Jamie Hauge, a Carson, N.D., cattleman. “Congratulations on a successful presidency, Blaine.”

In addition to his work with the NDSA brand inspection team, Northrop also served previously as the chief brand inspector, agricultural enforcement supervisor and, for a time, co-administrator for the Nevada Department of Agriculture.

The 2019-2020 ILIA Executive Committee was elected at the Calgary conference. The team consists of President John Suther of California; President-Elect Garth Woods of Saskatchewan, Canada; Vice President Jack Noble of Oregon; Director-at-Large Howard Brittan of Texas; Secretary-Treasurer Chad Parker of California; and Past President Northrop.
