Ellingson Wins State Communication Awards
North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) Executive Vice President Julie Ellingson was among the winners in the North Dakota Professional Communicators’ (NDPC) 2019 Communications Contest. NDPC members competed for awards in writing, editing, photography, public relations and other communication categories. The awards were presented at the NDPC Spring Conference in Bismarck, N.D., recently.
Ellingson, who temporarily filled in as the North Dakota Stockman magazine editor while the organization was filling a vacancy last year, took home three state awards, including the first-place honor for a feature story that appeared in the April 2018 Stockman, “Blessings X 3.” The article chronicled the stories of NDSA members whose cows had multiples during the last calving season, including Paul Lenz, whose 6-year-old Angus-Simmental cow delivered triplets three times in four years.
Ellingson also received a third-place and an honorable-mention award in the category for magazines/magpapers regularly edited by the entrant for her work on the Stockman magazine, the NDSA’s official publication.
Ellingson’s state-winning feature story will now advance to the national competition hosted by the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW). Winners in that contest will be named at the NFPW Communications Conference in Baton Rouge, La., next month.
The NDSA is an 89-year-old beef cattle trade organization that works to unite, protect, promote, educate and serve the state’s beef industry. To learn more, visit www.ndstockmen.org.
