On May 23, the Transporting Livestock Across America Safely Act was introduced to reform federal Hours of Service (HOS) rules to ensure the safety of animals, livestock haulers and others on the road.
The bill represents work the North Dakota Stockmen's Association has been doing on the electronic logging device issue over the past many months.
It provides for more drive time for livestock haulers, as well as grants the flexibility for drivers to rest at any point during the trip without the break counting against HOS time.
Additionally, it allows for another 150 air-mile exemption on the back end of a livestock haul to account for the wait time that ocurs when unloading live animals.
Thanks to Sens. Hoeven and Heitkamp who are among the bill's sponsors.
